Newcastle United can confirm the club’s retained list for summer 2026, with a further four senior players following Kieran Trippier and Emil Krafth in departing upon the expiry of their contracts.

Goalkeeping duo John Ruddy and Max Thompson are among those moving on, while fellow shot-stopper Mark Gillespie will continue his role in the squad for a further year.

Both Ruddy and Thompson have been valued members of the goalkeeping unit in recent years, with Academy product Thompson also gaining senior experience during loan spells away from Newcastle.

Also departing is full-back Matt Targett, who has just completed a season-long loan at Championship side Middlesbrough. Targett, one of Eddie Howe’s first signings, totalled 47 Magpies appearances following his arrival from Aston Villa in January 2022.

Elsewhere, goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale will return to parent club Southampton following the culmination of his season-long loan. Ramsdale featured 23 times in all competitions for the Magpies this season.

All players depart the club with the thanks and best wishes for the future from everybody at Newcastle United.
