Rory joined United as a 16-year-old from Blackburn Rovers in the summer of 2024 and quickly established himself as an integral part of the club’s Under-21 side, making 25 appearances in all competitions.

He made his professional debut aged 15 while at Rovers, featuring in an FA Cup third-round tie against Cambridge United in January 2024.

The 18-year-old, who captained the Republic of Ireland at last year's Under-17 World Cup finals in Qatar, earned his senior international debut in May 2026 during a 5-0 win against Grenada.

Rory also featured for the Magpies' first team last month during a pre-season friendly clash against Bayer 04 Leverkusen, playing in front of over 39,000 fans at St. James' Park.

He will now join Martin Paterson’s side, who sit 14th in League One after drawing their opening two games of the season.
