Newcastle United have been hard at work preparing for PSV Eindhoven in the UEFA Champions League (Kick-off Wednesday, 21st January - 8pm GMT.)

The Magpies have enjoyed a strong start in Europe this season and head into the final Champions League league stage games knowing automatic qualification to the knockout stages is a real possibility.

Eddie Howe has this week been buoyed by the return of key, first-team stars, with Dan Burn and William Osula both back on the grass in recent days.

"Dan's making really good progress," Howe told the media on Tuesday. "The journey back he's had, he's pretty much stuck to the timelines we expected but he wont make tomorrow, it's too early.

"Same with Will Osula, this was their first day with the team but hopefully they're not too far away."

United continue to deal with defensive injury issues but attacking duo Yoane Wissa and Nick Woltemade both remain fit at the opposite end of the pitch.

Brazilian duo Joelinton and Bruno Guimarães, along with Lewis Miley and Joe Willock, were also in action this week and will be battling it out for a starting spot in the middle of the park.

Meanwhile, fresh from his new contract, Sven Botman is raring to kick on between now and the end of the season after overcoming his own injury concerns.

"It's been a tough few months for him, difficult injury problems and setbacks. He's had to show real strength of character because he always wants to play and help the team," Howe said of the Dutch defender.
