Geordie fact. Former AC Milan midfielder Tonali missed much of his first term on Tyneside, but kicked off the Magpies' season with a brilliant volleyed finish on his debut to break the deadlock in the 5-1 opening-day thrashing of Aston Villa at St. James' Park.

Italian international midfielder Tonali joined the Magpies from his boyhood club Milan in the summer of 2023.

One of Italy's most highly rated young players, he began his senior career with Brescia where he achieved promotion from Serie B before moved to Milan in 2020 - initially on a season-long loan.

The lifelong Milanista went on to amass 130 Serie A appearances before moving to the Premier League. In his final season in Italy, he also played in all 12 group and knock-out phase games as AC Milan reached the semi-final stage of the UEFA Champions League.

Tonali settled in quickly to life on Tyneside, scoring a superb volley on his debut in the 5-1 win over Aston Villa in August 2023, and will look to help the Magpies continue their progress as he returns to action this season.
