Toon in training: Ready for the Reds

Newcastle United are back in Premier League action on Saturday as they travel to Anfield to face Liverpool (12:30pm kick-off).

The Magpies have had a two-week break from domestic action as the latest round of international fixtures were completed, with many of Steve Bruce’s first team squad featuring for their countries over the last fortnight.

Among them were defender Fabian Schär, who emerged from Switzerland’s European Championship qualifying double-header with a goal and an assist to show for his efforts, and Miguel Almirón, who netted his first international goal in Paraguay’s 4-2 win over Jordan in midweek.

And centre half Schär – who returned from international duty on Tuesday – was back out on the training pitch alongside his teammates on Wednesday, as attentions turn to the weekend’s game against last term’s Champions League winners.

Summer signing Andy Carroll, meanwhile, continued to work towards his return to full fitness ahead of the Magpies' clash with his former club.
