As Newcastle United look to defend their Carabao Cup title as well as compete in the UEFA Champions League, here is our guide to the key dates to know for the 2025/26 season.

Premier League

Eddie Howe's side will discover their schedule for the 2025/26 campaign when the fixtures are released at 9am (BST) on Wednesday, 18th June.

The Magpies, who finished in fifth place last season, will play their opening Premier League fixture across the weekend of Saturday, 16th August.

The final round of matches is scheduled to take place on Sunday, 24th May, all kicking off simultaneously, and the season will consist of 33 weekends and five midweek slots. Please note there will be no games on Christmas Eve.

Transfer window

There will be two Premier League transfer windows this summer in order to allow an exceptional registration period for the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.

The window is open now until 7pm on Tuesday, 10th June before reopening on Monday, 16th June and closing on Monday, 1st September at 7pm.

The winter transfer period runs from Thursday, 1st January to Monday, 2nd February.

Champions League

United are back in the UEFA Champions League after competing in the tournament's group stages during the 2023/24 season and the draw for the league phase will take place on Thursday, 28th August.

Newcastle will discover their eight opponents, with four fixtures taking place at St. James' Park and four taking place on away soil.

The dates for those matches are as follows:

Matchday 1: September 16/17/18

Matchday 2 September 30/October 1

Matchday 3: October 21/22

Matchday 4: November 4/5

Matchday 5: November 25/26

Matchday 6: December 9/10

Matchday 7: January 20/21

Matchday 8: January 28

The two-legged knockout play-offs – for teams that finish ninth to 24th in the league-phase table – are scheduled for February 17/18 and 24/25.

Last-16 ties will take place on March 10/11 and 17/18, the quarter-finals on April 7/8 and 14/15, and semi-finals on April 28/29 and May 5/6.

This season's final is to be staged at Puskás Aréna in Budapest, the city in which United won the 1969 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup under Joe Harvey's management, on Saturday, 30th May.

Carabao Cup

Eddie Howe's side head into this season's competition as cup holders after ending a 70-year wait for a domestic trophy following a 2-1 win against Liverpool in the 2025 final at Wembley Stadium in March.

The full schedule of the competition is yet to be announced, though the Magpies' journey will begin in round three.

The final will take place on Sunday, 22nd March at Wembley Stadium.

Emirates FA Cup

Dates for each round are still to be confirmed but United, who reached the fifth round of last season's competition, will enter at the third round stage which is usually played at the beginning of the calendar year.

All rounds will be played on weekends and there are no replays from the first round onwards.

Newcastle have lifted the FA Cup six times in their history, with their last triumph recorded back in 1955.
