Newcastle United extended their unbeaten Premier League run to four matches following a goalless draw against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides were unable to create a vast number of shots on target throughout the contest at a rain-sodden Molineux, with Nick Woltemade and Malick Thiaw unable to convert in the opening 45 minutes.

Newcastle restricted the hosts, rooted at the foot of the table, to six shots at goal but were unable to find an all-important breakthrough in front of goal as the 100th league meeting between the two sides ended in an uneventful stalemate.

Eddie Howe made four changes from Tuesday's Carabao Cup semi-final first leg against Manchester City as Kieran Trippier, Sandro Tonali, Harvey Barnes and Woltemade were named in the starting XI in place of Lewis Miley, Jacob Ramsey, Jacob Murphy and Yoane Wissa.

The visitors, unbeaten in their last eight matches against Wolves, began the contest in positive fashion. Lewis Hall's teasing cross from the left flank flew dangerously into Barnes' path but the Burnley-born winger was unable to attack the ball with conviction inside the box.

Woltemade, who scored on his Magpies debut in September's 1-0 win against Wolves, went close to opening the scoring. The Germany international rose from Kieran Trippier's curling free-kick inside the penalty area but guided his header over the crossbar.

Approaching the half-hour mark, Nick Pope produced a key stop to deny Mateus Mané. After the Magpies were unable to clear Yerson Mosquera's long-throw into the penalty area, the ball found its way to Mane but the teenager's half volley flew straight into the goalkeeper's gloves.

Thiaw went close to netting his fourth goal of the 2025/26 campaign before half-time as the German defender got onto Bruno Guimarães' in-swinging corner inside a crowded six-yard area but his close-range header struck Hugo Bueno. The ball ricocheted off Joelinton but the Brazilian was unable to poke the ball home, with Wolves goalkeeper José Sá claiming.

In the sole minute of additional time, Newcastle survived a late attack from the hosts as Hugo Bueno shifted the ball onto his left before the Wolves full-back's powerful drive flew narrowly over the bar.

Joelinton was unable to net a third goal in his last four league games as Guimarães' inviting delivery from the right flank found his Brazilian compatriot inside the box but Jackson Tchatchoua produced a late intervention to turn the ball out for a corner.

Newcastle continued their hunt for an opener as a neat exchanges of passes involving Barnes and Guimarães saw the former flash an excellent pass across the face of goal but the ball evaded a number of United players inside the box.

Trippier, making his first league start since November, went close to netting an impressive free-kick in the closing stages but the right-back's curling 30-yard attempt struck the side netting.

Guimarães and Joelinton both came close to scoring in quick succession as the Magpies captain's first-time strike inside the box was initially beaten away by Sá before Joelinton's headed rebound was held by the Wolves goalkeeper.

Following the stalemate, the Magpies moved into eighth place of the table and lie three points adrift of the division's top four spots.
