Zouma uses his strength to push Atsu off the ball, and despite Newcastle appeals, there's no foul. He was simply too strong for Atsu.

CHANCE! Crouch wins a long diagonal ball from Shaqiri and nods it down to Choupo-Mouting, but his half-volley is wildly over the bar from inside the box. That was their chance to level it!

Sobhi receives a cross-field pass well and drives Yedlin back into his box. He beats the full-back once witha  great feint, but instead of crossing, feints again and the ball runs out of play for a goal kick. Wasteful.

Perez pinches a throw in and bursts down the right, but his lofted cross is just too long and is cleared away.

Mbemba is lucky to get away without a yellow car after a handball. His arms were very high there. Shaqiri steps over the free-kick in a promising position, but blazes over. That was a great opportunity for Stoke.

Stoke are throwing men forward in search of this equaliser. They could easily get caught out on the break here.

CHANCE! Martins Indi makes a brilliant sliding block as Atsu charges down the left hand side. Excellent work from the Dutchman.

The resultant free-kick is headed clear for a corner, which Shaqiri also takes, but that is cleared away too.

Another long ball is chased by Atsu, and Martins Indi takes no chances by putting the ball out of play.

CHANCE! Atsu races clear on goal, and Zouma brings him down in the area, but no penalty! It looked like a clear penalty, but on closer inspection, the Frenchman may have gotten a touch on the ball first. A massive opportunity goes begging for Newcastle.

CHANCE! Stoke could have gone in front! A corner is met powerfully by Diouf, but Elliot gets down well and parries it away! Stoke could well nick a winner here!

Hayden is down in the centre circle, and Stoke use this break in play to make a substitution.

NO GOAL! Perez has the ball in the net as the ball falls to him in the box, but he is correctly judged to be offside. They shouldn't have needed that goal to be in front anyway with the chances they've had.

Newcastle wina  corner, which is again taken short. Ritchie's eventual delivery is headed out, before a shot from distance is blocked away for another corner, which is also cleared. Stoke nearly break away, but Yedlin gets back to end the danger.

A deft touch from Perez plucks the ball out of the air in his own half, but the forward is hauled down to prevent a quick attack. 

Choupo-Mouting stings the palms of Elliot with a fierce drive from the edge of the box, but the keeper is equal to it. The ball is then whipped across to Pieters, but he can't quite get there. Stoke are trying to hit back here and make Newcastle pay for their missed chances.

Zouma shows quick feet and strength again to wriggle free of Joselu and get Stoke going again. He's been the Potters' best player so far. Choupo-Mouting tries a neat flick, but it doesn't quite come off.

Shaqiri tries to swing the ball across the field to the advancing Pieters, but Yedlin heads clear.

CHANCE! Right at the start of the second half, Atsu's cross should have been cut out, but it finds Joselu, who again misses the target, going for the top left corner but firing over. He's missed a hat-trick of chances now!

Pieters clatters into Perez on the touchline, and gives away a free-kick. Ritchie steps over it, but his delivery is uncharacteristically poor, and it sails over everyone and out for a goal kick.

Both are teams fighting for the ball in midfield, but eventually Fletcher tries to release Choupo-Mouting over the top, but the striker is caught offside.

Ritchie tries to release Atsu with an outside-of-the-foot pass, but it's a little overhit and Zouma clears.

CHANCE! Zouma heads away for a corner, which is taken short. The shot from the edge of the box squirms through to Joselu again, but his poked effort is cleared by an onrushing Butland. Another chance for the striker to score against his old club.

Newcastle are just having a breather now as Elliot keeps the ball under no pressure. He slips playing the ball forward though, but it's straight out of play and there's no danger. It's a slippery surface.

Ritchie's resulting free-kick is on target, but far too close to Butland and he gathers easily.

CHANCE! Joselu spurns the opportunity to score against his former club as a whipped ball from the leftt sees him in acres of space with just Butland to beat. But he rushes and tries to take it on the volley, which is scuffed wide. He had time for a touch there and surely would have made it 2-0!

Butland has to race out to clear the ball away with Atsu rushing on to him! Hairy moment there for the Stoke defence, but their keeper bails them out.

For all of Stoke's possession, they haven't really tested Elliot in the Newcastle goal, or given the defence too much to think about.

Zouma plays a wonderful cross-field pass from right to left that is only just dealt with by Yedlin, who plays it back to his keeper to clear.

Jese tries to put the ball into Choupo-Mouting's path as he runs between the two Newcastle centre-halves, but his first touch is very heavy and the chance is gone.

Yedlin bombs down the right with great pace, but his low cross is easily gathered by Butland. Newcastle are looking to break quickly on Stoke when they win the ball back.

Newcastle look to break through the pace of Atsu, but his pass to Joselu is intercepted, and the attack breaks down.

Choupo-Mouting cuts inside from the left and has a drive at goal from outside the box, which is blocked away for a corner. The set piece comes to nothing though.

Newcastle try to switch play quickly, but the ball skids quickly off the surface. It's very wet out there today, which could haev some effect on the game.

Stoke have started well after their early blip, and are dominating the ball in the first few minutes.

Shaqiri tries to lift the ball into the area, and it is only half-cleared. Stoke recycle possession, and Fletcher nearly manages to slip Diouf through, but Elliot is out quickly to gather. 

Fletcher concedes a free-kick with a late challenge on Hayden. Just a little clumsy, and no cards from the referee.

Pieters whips the ball in after Choupo-Mouting plays him in on the left, but Allen can't quite get there and it is cleared.
